DESIGNERS, ARE YOU READY FOR THIS?!

Our prestigious fashion awards competition offers the perfect platform for designers to debut their labels and gain nationwide recognition. You won’t want to miss the chance to compete for trophies, prizes, and the highly coveted title of Rise to the Runway Fashion Designer of the year 2024 Our event provides an exciting opportunity for winners and runners-up to put their talent on display at NEXT GEN Emerging Fashion Runway as part of Queensland Arts and Fashion Festival.  With our team behind you and early exposure to the industry, participating in Rise to the Runway is the perfect opportunity to jumpstart your fashion career while competing against some of the most promising creatives in the industry.  Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to launch your career in fashion! ENTRIES OPEN TO STUDENT DESIGNERS: Open to secondary school, tertiary, university, or independent fashion design college students. Students must be either currently enrolled or have graduated or ceased study within the past 24 months EMERGING DESIGNERS: Open to, fashion design study graduates or self-taught designers. Emerging design entrants may have launched their label and started their sales journey but are not yet commercially established.

DESIGNER CLASSIFICATION

Student Designer

You are a STUDENT DESIGNER if any of the following apply:
  • You are a secondary school student
  • You are under 18 years of age
  • You are of any age studying a fashion related subject at tertiary, university, or an independent college (you must be either currently enrolled or have graduated or ceased study within the past 24 months)

YOU ARE INELIGIBLE IF
  • You have ever earned more than $5000 in one calendar year, through the sale or hire of your designs from any enterprise, boutique or online entity.

Emerging designer

You are an EMERGING DESIGNER if any of the following apply.
  • You are a fashion study graduate who graduated or ceased study more than 24 months ago
  • You are a self-taught designer who is not yet established in the commercial sale of your designs.
  • You may have launched your label and started your sales journey but are not yet commercially established.

YOU ARE INELIGIBLE IF
  • You have ever earned more than $5000 in one calendar year, through the sale or hire of your designs from any enterprise, boutique or online entity.

Applications will be forwarded to our selection panel.

Don’t worry if you haven’t decided on your categories or made your garments yet. You will have until the 12th of October to decide your categories. If you are a successful applicant, you would receive your official registration form and payment link to secure your spot.

1. Resort And swim

design brief

Celebrate the seamless transition from sun-kissed shores to vibrant beachside bars with a coordinated collection of three outfits that exudes the glamor of an Island Vacation. Think glamorous resort chic, playful swimwear, flowy cover-ups, and oversized sun hats.

2. Reinvented streetwear​

design brief

Showcase your creative brilliance while championing sustainability and ethical fashion practices. Craft an edgy streetwear look by using sustainable fabrics or upcycling and reinventing preloved clothing.

Embrace the global movement that is revolutionising the urban fashion landscape. Let your designs make a positive impact on the environment and inspire a more responsible fashion industry.

3. Wearable art

design brief

Blur the boundaries of art, sculpture and, fashion, let your imagination challenge your creativity, with the use of unconventional materials, artistry, and construction.

With the use of recyclable products, plastics, beads, rubber, feathers, fur, leather, lace, paint, building materials, integrated tech.

Consider drawing on fictional themes, gender fluidity, cultural diversity, political statements, nature-inspired, historical musings, victorian style, mocking the ordinary

Your piece of wearable art should scream innovation, amaze and capture the wonder of the judges and the audience.

4. A day at the races

design brief

Race day extravagance meets unparalleled elegance, create an outfit that beautifully reflects the excitement of a day at the races. Think bold colours and extravagant silhouettes complemented by elegant fascinators or hats. The judges will focus on attention to detail, and how well the Fascinator/hat and outfit complement each other. The winning design will embody the sophistication of a Fashion of the Fields competition.

Design must be complemented by a fascinator, headpiece or hat. (this may be your own work or collaboration with a milliner)

5. THE ETHICAL BRIDE​

design brief

Celebrates the new age bride who values the planet and sustainable fashion practices. Create a gown thats not only beautiful but is made from sustainable fabrics and ethically sourced embellishments.

Judges will be looking for elegant style, attention to detail and the ability to embody sustainability in both the design and production process. This is a great opportunity to showcase your commitment to sustainable and ethical fashion practices for the bride of tomorrow.

6. country of origin

design brief

In this category, designers are tasked with creating a collection of two pieces that beautifully encapsulates the rich splendor of their culture. Each design should serve as a sartorial passport, inviting the audience on a global expedition through the threads and patterns that tell the story of their heritage. 

We’re looking for designs that showcase traditional techniques, fabrics, and motifs, infused with a modern twist. Let your culture’s unique essence and craftsmanship shine brightly, transporting the audience to the heart of your homeland with every stitch.

If you incorporated the use of traditional art work, list the name of the artist.

You must also obtain written permission for the use of the artist’s work.
